The National Latino Education Institute honored distinguished and emerging Latino leaders at its 3rd annual Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
CHICAGO- The celebration, held at John Barleycorn, 149 W. Kinzie in Chicago, was hosted by the Emerging Leaders Board of NLEI with event co-emcees Dan Ponce, co-anchor of the WGN 9 Morning News, and Anthony Ponce, co-anchor and general assignment reporter for NBC 5 Chicago.
The event honored NLEI Emerging Leader Award recipients Tanya Cabrera of Illinois Dream Fund and Muhammad Gigani of Deloitte Tax LLP, and was attended by a host of prominent business and civic leaders.
“Tanya Cabrera has worked tirelessly to give hope to all students who are ready for College but get discouraged when faced with closed doors. Tanya works hard for education access for all”, said NLEI Executive Director Elba Aranda-Suh. “We are proud to honor her this year.”
Now a senior manager in Deloitte’s tax practice, Muhammad Gigani has spent 13 years in public accounting.
“Over the past decade, Muhammad Gigani has used his experience as a minority executive to build networks leading the Deloitte Hispanic Network Business Resource Group’s Chicago chapter, has served as past President of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting), and has been key in helping NLEI. Muhammad has led many diversity initiatives that create an environment of inclusion in business and finance. He represents the new generation of Latino leaders in Finance—and we’re so glad he is one of our honorees this year.”
