CDPH launches as part of ongoing response to meningitis outbreak.
CHICAGO - The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) launched a new online vaccination app this week, as part of the department's ongoing efforts to contain a recent outbreak of meningococcal meningitis among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Illinois. The app allows users to quickly find free meningitis vaccines near them, highlighting more than 45 locations across Chicago where the vaccine is available at no cost to residents.
CDPH Commissioner Julie Morita, MD. said: "Vaccinations are a safe and effective way to protect yourself and those around you from meningitis."
African American men are disproportionately affected in this outbreak in which there have been six confirmed cases of meningococcal meningitis in the State and one fatality.
